Getting ready for a dog

Are you a new owner welcoming a pet dog into your life? Here is a checklist to help you get prepared! 

Pet ID tag that has your contact information.

Someone finds your lost dog, their ID tag is the quickest way for them to contact you and let you know where they are! 

Collar and comfortable leash (and plenty of poop bags! Scented ones also available).

Having a soft tape measure is handy to check if your dog will fit into a harness 

Book appointment with vet for microchip and health check-up and vaccinations.

Vaccinations are important for keeping your dog safe from infectious diseases 

Secure crate to keep dog safe while you are not home.

Dogs can get up to all kinds of mischief while alone and eating their owners belongings 

Food based on dog’s health needs.

You should discuss with the vet about any allergies your dog might have. Dogs can have allergies to chicken, beef, wheat, certain types of vegetables, so it’s important to check ingredients listed at the back of dog food products 

Enrichment toys, chews, or activities.

An entertained and engaged pup is less likely to get into mischief 

Make sure the size and type of chew is safe and suitable for their jaw size

Dog bed depending on where they sleep at night, the dog bed should fit the area
